Québec City Off the Beaten Path

Québec City’s iconic attractions are certainly worth discovering, but some of the most memorable moments happen when you wander beyond the usual itinerary. In August, the city is alive with summer energy and full of little surprises for those who take the time to explore.

Start by watching the street performers in Old Québec, particularly around Dufferin Terrace and the neighbourhood’s lively public spaces. Then step away from the busiest streets to discover quieter residential lanes and lesser-known viewpoints throughout Upper Town.

Continue toward the Old Port, where the riverfront and summer atmosphere reveal another side of the city. For a complete change of scenery, explore a neighbourhood like Saint-Roch, which becomes especially lively toward the end of August with St-Roch XP.

A simple evening can also become an experience of its own: choose a terrace, catch an outdoor performance or wander through Old Québec after sunset.

Most importantly, leave a little room for spontaneity. A street you hadn’t planned to explore, a local artisan discovered by chance or music drifting through a public square can easily become one of your favourite memories of the trip.

Explore Old Québec early in the morning or later in the evening, when the atmosphere changes completely and its historic streets reveal a quieter, more intimate side.
